Scope and Contents
The Father John A. Risacher, S.J. diary, 1936-1943, contains notepad paper and thin typewriter paper (typed words and handwritten). On the pages contain correspondences, diary entries (mostly from 1941), unofficial deed, a list of people who attended a Christmas event in 1940, lists of benefactors, “Card Party” notes that have a list of attendees and gifts donated, a list of names and addresses, a list of committee members for the “card party”, an itinerary for the “card party”, a list of sophomores from Loyola College in 1925-1926, a list of 1929-1943 graduates with their addresses, a list of the 1940 board of health members, a page titled Carmel that has a list of prices for items, a list of people who sung a telegram to the Bishop, an alphabetized list of books (fiction works) about African Americans, extracts from a letter from Charles L. B. Lowndes, notes on a gift from John T. Waldhauser Jr., a list of new associates, notes on chess tournaments, lists of Sunday Mass attendance, church renovation notes, a list of S.J. members, and notes on various lectures he attended in 1936-1937.

Biographical / Historical
Father John A. Risacher, S.J., was an active member of the Baltimore, Maryland community and became a professor of Ancient Civilization at Loyola College in 1927. At Loyola College he was a leader and moderator for various clubs; as seen in the college’s newspaper, The Greyhound. Father John A. Risacher, S.J., had an interest in bringing more people to Catholicism and in ancient Rome.

Abstract
Father John A. Risacher, S.J., was an active member of the Baltimore, Maryland community and became a professor of Ancient Civilization at Loyola College in 1927. This diary contains notes on his life that included people he met with and what they discussed, church happenings, events he ran/attended, and lecture notes.

Physical Description
The diary was originally housed in a cloth binder by Lucas Brothers. The binder was discarded due to rusting on the metal rings and staining on the cloth.
Content Warning
As a historical resource, this collection reflects the racial prejudices of the era in which it was created, and some items include language and imagery which is offensive, oppressive and may cause upset. The use of this language is not condoned by Loyola Notre Dame Library, but we are committed to providing access to this material as evidence of the inequalities and attitudes of the time period.
