Biographical / Historical

The Kernewood estate was orignially built by David S. Wilson in the 1840s. David was the son of James Wilson of the Baltimore Wilson family, members of which owned mansions and estates from Charles Village to Towson. The Kernewood estate was later sold to the Garrett family, even later portions were sold to Miles and Virginia White, and then sold to Loyola College. Part of the estate was also used after World War I as officers' quarters for the Red Cross institute for the Blind. The original mansion was used as an athletic facility by Loyola College in 1925.
