Scope and Contents

The Nicholas Varga collection of Baltimore ethnic history materials, 1968-1987, consists of newspaper clippings, articles, and research notes related to the ethnic history of Baltimore. The materials trace Baltimore's ethnic history back to the founding of Maryland and the Civil War. Some folders contain research categorized by ethnic group. Other folders contain syllabi, drafts of exams, scholarly writing, and student writing from Varga's Ethnic Heritage of Baltimore course, tracing its development at Loyola College from 1981-1986. Additional items include a copy of the 1973 Ethnic Heritage Studies Bill establishing funds for ethnic history curriculum development and an outline from the 1969 Minorities in American Historyresearch seminar course Varga taught at Loyola.
