Scope and Contents
The Loyola University Maryland autograph collection, 1853-1988, consists of letters written to Loyola College administrators and Dr. Nicholas Varga, Loyola Archivist, by notable people of the time. All letters contain the writer's original signature. Some are historical documents pulled from Loyola collections, such as an 1853 letter from Joseph Henry to Father Ward at the Smithsonian Institution. American composer, Henry Mancini, signed his autograph on the front cover of the October 1980 Loyola College orchestra program, Henry Mancini Conducts The Baltimore Symphony. Other notable autographs include Herbert O'Conor, Ferenc Nagy, Dr. P. Stewart Macaulay, J. Millard Tawes, Chaim Potok, William Donald Schaefer, and Omar Bradley.
