Biographical / Historical

According to correspondence dated April 13, 1965, The Open Mind was "an informal periodical" to provide freshman with "the experience they will need to write for the representative Loyola magazine, Ignis." As a result of a dispute with and actions taken by the Student Council, The Open Mind merged with Ignis after its November 1965 issue.

In February 1967, The Open Mind returned "as a means by which students and faculty members can express opinions and be heard by, at least, a portion of the academic community." This publication consisted of opinions and essays.
