Biographical / Historical
The Chemists' Club, organized in 1929 by Father Schmitt, was an organization composed of those who majored in chemistry. The club was officially known as the Loyola Chapter of the American Chemical Society Chemical Affiliates. The object of the club was to stimulate interest in chemistry and to correlate the classroom teaching with applications as demonstrated by the representatives of industry. Meetings generally included a talk given by a chemist who was engaged in education, research, or production in one of the local industries, or a tour through one of the local chemical plants.
