Autographs of Civil War generals/Army officers [1 of 2]
Scope and Contents
This series contains a small collection of letters and documents with signatures of men associated with Lincoln. Most are letters or documents signed by Lincoln associates, but few of the letters or documents are substantive. One exception is a letter Stephen A. Douglas wrote after the 1858 elections alluding to success in the 1860 election. Many are letters of recommendation for individuals seeking government appointments. The container list has the name of the individual associated with Lincoln (writer or recipient) and the date of the letter. Some autographs are indecipherable and not included on this list. Montgomery also collected signatures clipped from letters.
