Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series contains postcards issued to commemorate the Lincoln centenary. At that time numerous postcards were issued depicting Lincoln’s life and legacy, usually accompanied by a quote from Lincoln. The collection has 55 postcards and most are printed in color. The Century Company issued a series with photographs of Lincoln by Mathew Brady accompanied by a quote and drawings illustrating the message. Sheahan’s of Boston issued a variety of postcards with engraved portraits of Lincoln above a lengthy quote. E. Nash published a series of 6 postcards and the complete set is in the collection. The International Art Publication Company of New York and Berlin issued a series of postcards based on paintings by C. Chapman.
