Biographical / Historical

The Concert Choir began in 1962-63 as the successor to the Glee Club. Its first performance was on December 16, 1962, at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, directed by Robert Twynham, the organist and choir director at the cathedral. On February 24, 1963, Concert Choir performed at the U.S. Naval Academy with the Midshipmen’s choir. Over the years CC collaborated with other choirs, including St. Mary’s Seminary and Loyola Maryland University. In the summer of 1976, under the direction of Paul Davis, the Concert Choir’s first European tour included concerts in England, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, and France.

The Concert Choir remains a musical organization at Notre Dame to the present (2019). The Notre Dame website states that Concert Choir “presents on- and off-campus, performs music for selected events at the University and has several recordings and concert tours, both in the United States and abroad, to its credit.”
