Biographical / Historical

BACCHUS (Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students) was a student-run organization which promoted health and safety on college campuses. BACCHUS was founded by students at the University of Florida in 1975 in response to the need for alcohol awareness and abuse prevention. In 1980, the organization incorporated as BACCHUS of the U.S., Inc.; and offered services, educational materials, and training conferences to a growing network of college campuses. BACCHUS provided a peer education model.

Notre Dame of Maryland University’s chapter of BACCHUS existed in the 1990s; however, the beginning and end dates of the organization’s existence at the university are unclear.
