Biographical / Historical
John Francis "Frank" Cashen (September 13, 1925 - June 30, 2014) was a 1945 graduate of Loyola College who went on to a distinguished career as a Major League Baseball general manager. Cashen played second base on the baseball team at Loyola. After graduation, he worked as a sportswriter for the Baltimore News-American and earned a JD from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1958. After working in publicity for a time, Cashen was hired as the executive vice president of the Baltimore Orioles in 1965, and also served as general manager from 1971-1975. In 1980 Cashen was hired as general manager by the New York Mets, a position he held until 1991. The Mets won the 1986 World Series during his tenure. On August 1, 2010, Cashen was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame. During his time leading the Orioles and the Mets, his teams earned four playoff appearances, one pennant, and one World Series title, and combined for a .528 winning percentage.
