Arrangement

Born-digital materials are integrated into their corresponding series based on content. The original file order was not retained and some duplicate file names were changed.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Donated by Sister Sue Weetenkamp, Chair of the Murphy Initiative Board of Directors, in February 2019. The digital files from the P. Francis Murphy Initiative for Justice and Peace records were donated on several 3.5-inch floppy disks and three CDs. The files were extracted from the media in April 2024 to create master preservation and access copies.

Processing Information

This collection was processed in March 2024 by Kate Campbell. Digital materials processed in April 2024 by Kate Campbell, under the supervision of Peter Sutton.

Forensic disc images were created from the floppy disks and DVDs using FTK Imager. Individual files were extracted using FTK Imager and scanned for viruses using Windows Security anti-virus software. Duplicate and system files have been removed. Some access files identified by the program Bulk Extractor have been redacted to protect personal identifiable information or Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with LNDL Archives and Special Collections policies. Text-based files were migrated to PDF/A using Adobe Acrobat, image files were migrated to TIFF using Adobe Photoshop, DVD video files were migrated to MP4 using Adobe Premiere, and spreadsheet files were converted to CSV using Microsoft Excel. In this process file dates have been changed from the original creation date. Some of the filenames in this collection were similar or the same (e.g. “Board minutes”). To avoid accidental overwrite we added the original disk number to any duplicate filenames (e.g., "Disk 27"). Researchers may see original filenames and date(s) of creation/modification upon request.
